However, what if you want to save your Facebook photos to your own device, or back them up somewhere else? Maybe you want to delete your Facebook account, or you're worried about losing your photos due to hacking, accidental deletion, or other reasons. In this article, we'll show you how to download your Facebook photos easily and safely, and how to organize and store them for future use.

Why You Might Want to Download Your Facebook Photos

There are many reasons why you might want to download your Facebook photos. Here are some of the benefits and risks of keeping your photos on Facebook.

Benefits of downloading your Facebook photos

  • You can have a backup copy of your photos in case something happens to your Facebook account or the platform itself.

  • You can access your photos offline, without relying on an internet connection or the Facebook app.

  • You can edit, print, share, or use your photos for other purposes without any restrictions or limitations from Facebook.

  • You can have more control over your privacy and security, and avoid potential data breaches or misuse of your photos by Facebook or third parties.

Risks of losing your Facebook photos

  • You might lose some of your precious memories and moments that you captured and shared on Facebook.

  • You might lose some of the comments, reactions, and interactions that you had with your friends and family on your photos.

  • You might lose some of the metadata and information that was attached to your photos, such as the date, location, tags, captions, etc.

  • You might lose some of the quality and resolution of your photos, depending on how Facebook compressed or processed them.

How to Download Your Facebook Photos

There are two main ways to download your Facebook photos: using Facebook's own feature called Download Your Information, or using third-party apps or websites that can help you save your photos from Facebook. Let's look at each option in more detail.

Using Facebook's Download Your Information feature

This is the official and recommended way to download all your data from Facebook, including your photos. You can choose what kind of data you want to download, such as posts, messages, comments, likes, etc., as well as the format, quality, and date range. You can also download data from your profiles, groups, and pages. However, this method has some drawbacks. It can take a long time for Facebook to prepare and send you the download link. It can also be confusing and tedious to sort through all the folders and files that you receive. And it does not include any photos that were uploaded by other people and tagged with you.

Steps for downloading your Facebook photos from a computer

  • Go to .

  • Select a format (HTML or JSON), quality (high, medium, or low), and date range (all time or custom) from the menus.

  • Unless you want to download everything from your account, choose Deselect All under Select information to download.

  • Select Posts from the list. You can also select Groups if you want to download post information from the groups you belong to. This will include the photos that you uploaded or were tagged in.

  • Click on Create File. You will see a message that says "A copy of your information is being created".

  • Wait for Facebook to send you an email with a link to download your file. This can take from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the size of your data.

  • Once you receive the email, click on the link and enter your password to access your file.

  • Download the ZIP file to your computer and extract it. You will see several folders and files with different types of data.

  • Open the folder named photos_and_videos. You will see subfolders with the names of your profiles, groups, and pages. Each subfolder will contain more subfolders with the names of your albums or posts.

  • Open each subfolder and find the photos that you want to save. You can also open the HTML files that have the same name as the subfolders to see more information about each photo, such as the date, caption, tags, etc.

Steps for downloading your Facebook photos from the Facebook app

  • Open the Facebook app on your phone or tablet and tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines).

  • Scroll down and tap on Settings & Privacy, then tap on Settings.

  • Scroll down and tap on Download Your Information under Your Facebook Information.

  • Tap on Create File. You will see a message that says "A copy of your information is being created".

  • Wait for Facebook to send you a notification with a link to download your file. This can take from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the size of your data.

  • Once you receive the notification, tap on it and enter your password to access your file.

  • Download the ZIP file to your phone or tablet and extract it.

Using third-party apps or websites

If you don't want to use Facebook's Download Your Information feature, or if you only want to download specific photos or albums, you can use third-party apps or websites that can help you save your photos from Facebook. However, this method has some drawbacks too. You might need to grant access to your Facebook account or data to these apps or websites, which can pose some privacy and security risks. You might also encounter some limitations or errors when using these apps or websites, such as low quality, slow speed, broken links, etc. And you might not be able to download all your photos, especially those that were uploaded by other people and tagged with you.
